Are you ready to learn about Small Buddies?

Now, it's time to learn some of the things we can do when we can't simply add a number. This is where Small Buddies come into play. This is a challenge for your child's mind, but they will get it in no time! We promise!

When can you use a Small Buddy?

Small Buddies are two numbers that together, add up to 5.

The small buddy of 4 is 1
The small buddy of 3 is 2
The small buddy of 2 is 3
The small buddy of 1 is 4

You should have your child memorize these.

When can you use a Small Buddy?

Small Buddies are used when you can't simply add a number.
So if you can't simply add a number, you are going to add 5 and take away the Small Buddy of that number.

Example: Can't add 4? +5 and -1

Small Buddies are also used when you can't simply subtract a number.
So if you can't simply add a number, you are going to take away 5 and add the Small Buddy of that number.

Example: Can't take away 3? -5 and +2

Watch the video below to see some examples of using the Small Buddies! Once you practice this, it will be a piece of cake!
