Questioning the Text: Learning to ask questions while reading to understand the text better.
Understanding Main Ideas and Details: Identifying the central theme of a passage and the details that support it.
3rd graders will learn about text features, focusing on understanding various components of nonfiction texts:
Understanding Text Structure: Learning text features like titles, headings, special print, and graphics.
Navigation using a table of contents and index: Using a table of contents and index in a nonfiction book.
Utilizing a Glossary for Vocabulary: Understanding how to use a glossary to learn new words and concepts.
Interpreting Graphics and Illustrations: Learning to read and understand graphics, illustrations, maps, labels, and captions.
3rd graders will enhance reading comprehension by developing sophisticated strategies to understand and analyze texts:
Advanced Comparison and Contrast: Developing skills in comparing and contrasting different texts.
Evaluating Texts: Learning to assess and evaluate a text critically.
