Memorization of Mentals Leads to a Business Helper and an A+ Student

Angelina Samson, a Genie Academy graduate, shows off her amazing mental math skills by helping her mother run her business. Not only has Genie Academy’s teaching of mental math helped her with answering quick addition, subtraction, and multiplication, but it has helped her with pattern recognition when it comes to remembering her monologues and dance moves.

Cheryl Samson, Angelina’s mother, met with Mohit Jain and discussed how Genie Academy was the best choice because it helped improve Angelina’s grades, quickness, focus, and memory. 

Cheryl owns a food concession business and commented on how important it was for Angelina to be involved in the business and how Genie Academy’s teaching of mental math helped her immensely. 

“For me, it was because of our business. I wanted her to be able to add quickly, add fast because everyone is tied to a calculator and tied to a register. It’s proven in the last 2-3 years that she can add quicker than anybody else on my team. It has helped tremendously with her schoolwork as well.  Sometimes are registers go down and we will say Angelina 8.75x4 go!  And she will answer it fast. That is really what it is designed for. She was already doing really well in math and we wanted her to exercise her mind,” Cheryl Samson said. 

Ms. Samson says she relies very much on Angelina. “She is the one that we count on. To add in case something breaks down. She is involved in the business, inventory, and she can count the rows of cups. There is just something about her confidence now.” 

Besides being her mother’s right-hand man when registers go down, Angelina uses her mentals in other ways.

When asked about the Genie Academy program in regards to what things worked well Genie Academy and what did not work well, Ms. Samson had no negative remarks; only positive ones. 

“I can’t say anything negative. For me, the teachers were fantastic. When you got that online thing where you had to advice when you weren’t going to be in school, they were quick with their responses. The teachers are compassionate. Angelina’s schedule got very busy when she started acting school. I think acting as far as memorizing her monologues, I think that helped her. She just started in February acting and she was able to pick up quickly,” Cheryl Samson said.

Ms. Samson believes that Genie Academy's overall program helped her daughter’s acting and dancing skills due to memorization. As she continues to talk about the positives of Genie Academy, she mentions how Angelina’s dancing skills have also improved.

“As far as positives, her dancing skills improved. She is already a wonderful dancer, but I found that in the kind of dances she’s learning that she was learning it very quickly.  I don’t know if it was part of it, but she was learning it quickly. She can get those moves and present really well, again, I don’t know if that was genie, but I got to think all of this culminated to that. The beats, the coordination, and eye focus. Just everything. Not only were you all compassionate about school work, but you guys were accommodating to our hectic schedule and you guys made that happen and I can’t thank you guys enough,” Cheryl Samson said.

Although Angelina had a hectic schedule, it did not stop her from receiving straight A+’s in every academic subject, including subjects like music.

“Angelina has always been a straight A student, but now she’s an A+ student and when I talk about that, that’s everything! Math, social studies, science. She’s diligent and she’s a hard worker. Now I see more confidence in math. She struggled, but didn’t fail. She went from A to A+. Earlier she was probably 93-94 and now she is at 97, 98, 99,” Cheryl Samson said.

Ms. Sampson believes Genie Academy has helped Angelina improve in countless ways. For parents thinking about considering the program, Ms. Sampson states her advice:

“Do not think. Just go for it.”
