Finding the Missing Bricks: Your Child's New AI-Powered Learning Plan

Posted by Heidi Riad on August 6, 2026

Three young children learning math together with number flashcards and abacuses in a classroom

Every parent ends up asking some version of the same question: what does my child actually know, and what are they missing?

A report card doesn’t really answer it. A “B” in math is an average of a whole semester. It won’t tell you that your child is shaky on fractions but strong on geometry, or that a small gap from two grades ago is quietly making this year harder than it should be. That missing brick usually stays invisible — right up until it topples something later.

We’ve been working on a way to make those bricks visible. Today we’re excited to tell you what’s coming.

What flashcards taught us

Over the past year we brought flashcards into the classroom — not as busywork, but as a way to turn the fundamentals into muscle memory. Times tables, sight words, abacus buddies, the formulas everything else is built on.

The difference was clear. When the basics become automatic, your child stops spending energy on recall and starts spending it on actual thinking. And because we made the practice a game, they wanted to do it.

If you’ve read our post on Shu Ha Ri, this is the “Shu” stage in action: careful repetition until the fundamentals are second nature. You can’t skip it, and you can’t fake it.

That success got us asking a bigger question. What if we could see exactly which bricks each child is missing — and put the right practice in front of them at the right moment?

A private learning model, built around your child

Here’s what we’ve been building: a private learning model based on your child’s own assessments, exam scores, and class reports.

It’s private in the way that matters most to us — it exists to help your child, and no one else. It looks at your child’s real work and does two things:

  • Maps what your child knows and doesn’t know, skill by skill, instead of collapsing a whole subject into one letter grade.
  • Lays out a learning plan across the grades, from 1st all the way to 12th, so progress has a clear path rather than a year-by-year scramble.

Instead of a single grade, you get a picture: here’s what’s solid, here’s the gap, and here’s what we’re doing about it.

What this means for you

You’ll know where your child actually stands. Not a hunch, not an average — the specific skills that are strong and the specific ones that need attention.

Practice gets targeted. When the model spots a missing brick, that’s exactly where the extra resources and flashcards go. No wasted repetition on things already mastered, no gaps left to widen.

The plan grows with your child. As they master a skill, the map updates and the next step comes into focus. It’s built to carry them all the way through high school.

One thing that won’t change: your child still learns from a real coach in a small class. The model is a map, not a substitute for teaching. It helps us aim; the teaching still happens person to person, the way it always has.

What’s next

We’re rolling this out in stages, and there’s more to share as it comes together. Keep an eye on our newsletter for updates on the new curriculum plan and what it means for your child specifically.

We started Genie Academy to make learning clearer, steadier, and a little more fun. This is a big step toward exactly that — knowing precisely where your child is, and precisely how to help them go further.
